What changed

The dates and facts.

NOV 2, 2026

Applies to new Copilot Business purchases through CSP resellers.

Microsoft announced that new Copilot Business subscriptions bought from CSP partners from November 2, 2026 come with pay-as-you-go usage billing preconfigured, with a preset monthly limit. Existing subscriptions and direct purchases are outside this announcement; confirm yours with your provider.

WHAT IS BILLED

Eligible AI services are billed in Copilot Credits.

Copilot Credits are Microsoft's unit for consumption-based billing (reported at $0.01 per credit on pay-as-you-go) for eligible AI services, on top of the per-user license. Secondary coverage reports a default limit of $10 per user per month; verify the figure with Microsoft or your provider.

IF LIMIT HITS

Ask what happens when the limit is reached.

Confirm with your provider whether users lose the metered services until the month resets, and whether limits apply per user or to the whole pool.

What to do

Steps for a small team.

01 / ASK

Ask your IT provider what limit is preset.

Get it in writing: the amount per user, who can change it, and how overage is invoiced.

02 / SET

Set your own monthly limit.

Pick a number you would accept as a surprise on the invoice, per user and in total.

03 / REVIEW

Check usage after the first month.

If nobody used the metered services, lower the limit or turn the feature off.
