Custom GPTs are retired.
OpenAI plans to retire custom GPTs on December 11, 2026. Enterprise workspaces with an approved deferral can keep using them until February 11, 2027.
If your business built custom GPTs for quotes, SOPs or customer replies, they stop working on December 11, 2026. Instructions and knowledge files can move to plugins. Custom actions and conversations do not.
OpenAI plans to retire custom GPTs on December 11, 2026. Enterprise workspaces with an approved deferral can keep using them until February 11, 2027.
OpenAI's current target for ending creation of new custom GPTs in affected Enterprise workspaces is October 26. Rollout dates and workspace notices may differ, so check your own account.
Published instructions and knowledge files can migrate to plugins through a "Migrate to plugin" option in My GPTs once it reaches your account. Custom actions (connections to other apps), existing conversations and sharing settings do not transfer; anyone who uses a GPT today needs a fresh invitation to the replacement.
Write down the name, owner, job (quotes, SOPs, customer replies), who it is shared with, and whether it uses custom actions.
Keep the instructions text and the knowledge files outside ChatGPT. Save 3 to 5 prompts with the answers you consider good, so you can test any replacement.
Copy out any unpublished changes so nothing lives only in an editor. If your workspace is affected, do this before the Oct 26 creation stop.
If a GPT depends on custom actions, plan to rebuild that connection. If it only holds instructions, migration may be enough. Retire the ones nobody used.
Dates and limits can change and vary by workspace and contract. Confirm them in your own admin console or with your provider. See corrections.
