Worthd marketing-tool check for trades shopsCall tracking for contractors: what it costs and when it pays
A 3 to 8 person HVAC, plumbing or electrical shop that pays for Google or Facebook ads and wants to know which ones make the phone ring. What CallRail and WhatConverts cost on a 100-call month, and the ad budget below which it is not worth it.
All prices checked Oct 12, 2026Reviewed by Worthd EditorialUS onlyUpdated Oct 12, 2026
The short answerOn 100 calls of 4 minutes a month, CallRail Lead Tracking is about $57.50 and WhatConverts Call Tracking is $30 to $60.
That is 11.5% of a $500 ad budget and 3.8% of $1,500. If you spend under about $500 a month on ads, the tool costs more than a tenth of what it measures. Above $1,500, it is a small share and one reallocated ad group usually covers it.

Prices are the monthly list prices on each vendor's page on Oct 12, 2026. CallRail says "save up to 10%" on a yearly plan without showing yearly prices. CallRail's own page disagrees with itself in places: one table shows $0.06 a local minute on Lead Tracking where the fee list shows $0.05, and Conversion plans show both 2,500 and 10,000 analysis minutes. Worthd used $0.05 and left the Conversion plans out of the worked totals.
A real month100 calls, 4 minutes each, 5 tracking numbers
| Line | CallRail Lead Tracking | WhatConverts Call Tracking |
|---|
| Base plan | $50.00 | $30.00 |
|---|
| Minutes (400 used) | 150 over the 250 included x $0.05 = $7.50 | 400 x $0.045 = $18.00 if none are included |
|---|
| Numbers (5) | Included | 5 x $2.50 = $12.50 if none are included |
|---|
| Month total | $57.50 | $30.00 to $60.50 |
|---|
Check: 400 minutes - 250 included = 150; 150 x $0.05 = $7.50; $50 + $7.50 = $57.50. WhatConverts: $18.00 + $12.50 = $30.50 of usage, so $60.50 if the $30 credit does not apply to it and $30.00 if it covers all of it. The page does not say how many numbers or minutes are included or what the credit applies to, so the real bill sits between. Five numbers is one each for Google Ads, your Google Business Profile, your website, Facebook ads and the truck.
When it paysThe tool is a share of your ad budget
| Monthly ad spend | $57.50 as a share of it | What that means |
|---|
| $500 | 11.5% | Hard to justify unless you run several channels |
|---|
| $1,500 | 3.8% | Pays if it moves a tenth of the budget to a better ad |
|---|
| $3,000 | 1.9% | Small enough to run without thinking about it |
|---|
The other way to see it is jobs. Divide $57.50 by your gross profit on an average job: $300 means 0.19 of a job a month, $600 means 0.10, $1,200 means 0.05. Tracking only earns that back if it changes something: you turn off an ad group that rings but never books, or you see that missed calls after 5 PM are where jobs go.
TermsWhat the pricing pages say about contracts
- CallRail: no contract length or cancellation terms on the pricing page. Monthly plans are billed in arrears for extra usage. Annual plans are paid 12 months up front. Extra usage fees are non-refundable and fees can change with notice. 14-day free trial, no credit card.
- WhatConverts: no contract terms or annual discount on the pricing page. 14-day free trial; the page does not say whether a card is needed.
- Add-ons you may be offered: CallRail Voice Assist starts at $95 a month on top of a Lead Tracking plan. You do not need it to count calls.
Who this is wrong forSkip call tracking if
- You spend under about $500 a month on ads: the tool is over a tenth of the budget.
- Your jobs come from referrals and repeat customers. A tracking number cannot tell you which neighbour sent the call.
- You want booked jobs tied to each call inside Jobber or Housecall Pro. Worthd did not verify an integration for either vendor, so ask before paying.
Questions owners askFAQ
How much does CallRail cost for a small contractor?
CallRail's pricing page lists Lead Tracking at $50 a month with 5 local numbers, 250 local minutes and 25 texts, and Lead Tracking Complete at $95 with 1,000 form submissions added. Extra local numbers are $3, extra local minutes $0.05 and extra texts $0.03. A shop with 100 calls a month averaging 4 minutes uses 400 minutes, which is 150 over the 250 included, so the bill is about $57.50. Checked Oct 12, 2026.
How much does WhatConverts cost?
WhatConverts lists Call Tracking at $30 a month for up to 148 phone call leads, with a $30 free usage credit. Plus is $60, Pro $100 and Elite $160, and those add up to 300 forms, chats and transactions. Extra local numbers are $2.50 and local minutes 4.5 cents. The page does not say how many numbers or minutes are included, so a real bill is between about $30 and $60 for the 100-call month used here. Checked Oct 12, 2026.
Is call tracking worth it for a one-truck shop?
Only if you pay for ads. At $57.50 a month, call tracking is 11.5% of a $500 monthly ad budget and 3.8% of $1,500. With no ads, calls come from referrals and repeat customers, and a tracking number tells you little you do not already know.
How many jobs does it take to pay for call tracking?
Divide the monthly cost by your profit per job. At $57.50 a month, one job with $600 of gross profit covers about 10 months of the tool; at $300 of profit per job it takes 0.19 of a job a month, or one extra job every five months. The tool only pays if it changes where you spend ad money or helps you answer more calls.
Does CallRail have a contract or cancellation fee?
CallRail's pricing page does not state a contract length or cancellation terms. It says monthly customers are invoiced each month for the base fee plus the previous month's extra usage, annual customers pay 12 months up front, extra usage is non-refundable, and fees can change with notice. Read the terms at sign-up. Both CallRail and WhatConverts list a 14-day free trial.
Does call tracking work with Jobber or Housecall Pro?
Worthd did not verify any Jobber or Housecall Pro integration with CallRail or WhatConverts on this check, so it is not claimed here. Ask both vendors before you buy if you want booked jobs tied back to the call that produced them.
What was not verifiedYearly CallRail prices, how many numbers and minutes WhatConverts includes and what its $30 credit applies to, WhatConverts card and contract terms, any Jobber or Housecall Pro integration, and prices of other call tracking tools (CallTrackingMetrics, Podium and others are not covered). Google Ads' own call reporting was not checked.
