The short answerHousecall Pro's $149 a month Essentials plan is the smaller line for a 3-person shop.
On $15,000 a month of invoices, card fees alone run $4,662 to $6,282 a year depending on how customers pay, against $1,788 for the plan. Four things on Housecall Pro's own pages are easy to miss: the 6th person moves you from $149 to $299 a month, a GPS device is $20 per truck, Instapay adds 1% (more on small invoices), and an annual plan is not refunded if you leave early after the first 30 days.
The real yearA 3-person shop on Essentials, billed annually, collecting $15,000 a month by online invoice
Yearly Housecall Pro cost for a 3-person shop| Line | Per month | Per year | Source |
|---|
| Essentials, billed annually | $149 | $1,788 | Pricing page, Oct 29 |
| Card fees at 2.99% (online invoice) on $15,000 | $448.50 | $5,382 | Payments help article, July 20, 2026 |
| Vehicle GPS, 3 trucks (optional) | $60 | $720 | GPS page |
| Tap to Pay, 3 active users (optional, up to) | $15 | $180 | Help article, Jan 21, 2026 |
| Total with both add-ons | $672.50 | $8,070 | |
Fee = rate x amount collected x 12; Worthd arithmetic. Skip GPS and Tap to Pay and the year is $7,170.
Card fees are two-thirds of that year ($5,382 of $8,070). The plan price is under a quarter ($1,788).
The 6th-user jumpWhat nobody prints next to the $149
Essentials includes 5 users and Housecall Pro's pricing page lists no add-user price for it, so the 6th login means Max.
Housecall Pro vs Jobber Connect by crew size, billed annually| Crew | Housecall Pro, annual | Jobber Connect, annual | Gap |
|---|
| 5 users | $149 (Essentials) | $149 (Connect, 5 users) | $0 |
| 6 users | $299 (Max) | $178 (Connect 5 + 1 extra at $29) | $121 a month, $1,452 a year |
| 10 users | $369 (Max $299 + 2 x $35) | $229 (Connect, 10 users) | $140 a month, $1,680 a year |
Worthd arithmetic from list prices on each vendor's pricing page, Oct 28 to 29, 2026. Jobber's new-customer promo ends Oct 30 and is not counted.
Hiring the 6th person costs $150 more a month on Housecall Pro ($1,800 a year). Max does include more: the sales proposal tool, recurring service plans, route optimization and an open API, per the pricing page. On these list prices Jobber Connect is cheaper at 6 and 10 users; Worthd has not compared the features side by side here. See Jobber pricing and Jobber vs Housecall Pro.

Card feesThe part the plan price hides
The same $15,000 a month, by how customers pay (Worthd arithmetic). The full rate table is on Housecall Pro for 3 technicians.
Housecall Pro card fees on $15,000 a month| How customers pay | Rate | Per month | Per year |
|---|
| Card reader or Tap to Pay | 2.59% | $388.50 | $4,662 |
| Online invoice | 2.99% | $448.50 | $5,382 |
| Keyed in, scanned or card on file; Amex and commercial cards | 3.49% | $523.50 | $6,282 |
| Bank transfer (ACH) | 1% | $150 | $1,800 |
Rates from Housecall Pro's payment processing help article, dated July 20, 2026.
- Every card row is more than the $1,788 plan.
- The spread between the reader and a keyed card is $1,620 a year ($6,282 - $4,662), so a shop that takes cards over the phone pays the top rate on those jobs.
- Moving $5,000 of the $15,000 from online invoices to bank transfer saves $99.50 a month ($149.50 - $50), $1,194 a year. Housecall Pro lists no fixed cents-per-transaction fee; Jobber's is 2.9% + 30c. See getting paid by bank transfer.
Instapay. Instant payout costs 1% on top of the standard card or bank processing fee, plus an additional $0.75 on any transaction under $75 (Instapay FAQ, July 20, 2026). If every dollar of $15,000 a month were paid out instantly, that is $150 a month, $1,800 a year; most shops will use it on some payouts only.
Add-onsWhat has a published price and what does not
Housecall Pro add-on prices| Add-on | Price Housecall Pro publishes | Source |
|---|
| Vehicle GPS tracking | $20 per vehicle per month, own device each, no contract | GPS page, Oct 13, 2026 |
| Tap to Pay on Mobile | $5 per active user per month | Help article, Jan 21, 2026 |
| Extra user (Max only) | $35 a month | Pricing page footnote |
| Voice, Pipeline, Reviews, Sales Proposal Tool, Recurring Service Plans | Not published; the pages say only "Start a 14-day free trial" | Feature pages, Oct 28 |
| Company phone numbers | "Additional monthly charge", amount not published | Terms, 07/01/2026 |
Not published means ask for the price in writing before you start the trial. Worthd does not quote third-party blog numbers for these. Plan locks: QuickBooks Online sync starts on Essentials ($90 a month over Basic, billed annually), and service agreements (recurring service plans) need Max ($150 a month over Essentials).
Billing term and leavingMonthly vs annual, and what is not refunded
- Monthly vs annual: Essentials costs $480 more a year billed monthly ($2,268 vs $1,788). Basic costs $240 more and Max $360 more.
- The intro offer does not close the gap: Essentials billed monthly in year one is $26 + 11 x $189 = $2,105, still $317 above the annual $1,788 (offer shown on the pricing page Oct 29, 2026, no end date shown).
- Leaving: the terms say fees "will not be prorated or refunded, except as expressly set forth in this Agreement". Prepay Essentials for a year and cancel after 3 months: the other 9 months, $1,341, are not refunded under that clause.
- The 30-day exception: Housecall Pro's billing help says it "offers a money-back guarantee within the first 30 days of your subscription". It must have been offered at sign-up and covers only the baseline monthly subscription fee, not setup fees, postcards or chargebacks. So the $1,341 example applies after day 30.
- How to cancel: the billing help (updated July 8, 2026) says to start a chat with Support; the Billing team reaches out within 1 to 3 business days and "cannot fully process your cancellation or pause billing until a team member has spoken with the account owner". The terms (07/01/2026) say to email cancellations@housecallpro.com to cancel and request a refund.
- All plans auto-renew at the then-current fee, and pricing can change on notice. Data export after cancelling is not stated in the terms read, so ask before you rely on it. More: cancellation terms for field service software.
Not for everyoneWho this page is wrong for
One-person shops (Basic is $59 and none of the 6th-user math applies; see Housecall Pro pricing), shops that collect mostly by check or bank transfer (the card rows do not apply), and shops that need a quote-only vendor's features (see Workiz and FieldPulse). Worthd has no referral arrangement with Housecall Pro and earns nothing if you buy it.
